[ใหม่] The Growing Indian Automobile Industry

The Indian automobile industry has grown to new heights before our eyes in the last few years. It has evolved from being a small niche market to a large market with tons of potential. The best example of this is how a decade ago you had just a handful of cars to choose from across all segments, the maruti 800 ruled the hatchback segment for years at end and the sedan segment offered one the Maruti Esteem, Opel Astra, Daewoo Cielo and the Hindustan Motors Contessa. The SUV segment comprised of the lone Maruti Gypsy. If you compare this to the scenario in today's automobile industry it will be hard to believe the change that has taken place over the last ten years. Today's market has all the global players fighting to gain supremacy of the market and grab a fair amount of the market share.

Car manufacturers from the world over like Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford, Skoda, Chevrolet, Renault, Honda, Hyundai and Nissan have all entered the Indian market and set up shop here. Most of these manufacturers have opened up their manufacturing plants across the country in order to cut the import costs. Also many manufacturers have started making cars which are specifically made keeping in mind the Indian market and the Indian consumer.

There are cars being launched every few days and the number of cars one can choose from is endless. Let's look at a few cars that have been launched through the last year across all segments.

The sedan segment has seen the launch of the Toyota Etios, which is Toyotas attempt to a budget sedan to battle the likes of the Maruti Dzire and the Tata Indigo. This is the perfect example of how manufacturers are making cars specifically for the Indian market. Skoda launched the Rapid which was the cheapest sedan they have ever launched. The other cars that were launched were the Renault Fluence, the Hyundai Verna Fluidic and several others.

The hatchback segment being the most popular segment has seen many launches through the course of the year. We saw the launch of the Honda Brio, Toyota Etios Liva and the Hyundai Eon which was Hyundai's attempt at battling the Maruti Alto k10 which rules the budget hatchback segment.

The SUV segment saw the Skoda Yeti, Renault Kolios, mahindra XUV 500 and the tata aria. There were also many older cars that had a face lifted version launched.

The new MUV segment which is growing in popularity by the day earlier had cars like the Maruti Suzuki eeco ruling the roost. However, now cars like the Toyota Innova, Mahindra and the newly launched Maruti Ertiga are battling it out to gain supremacy in this segment.
