เปลือกมังคุดมีสารที่เรียกว่า แทนนิน(tannin)มีฤทธิ์สมานแผลช่วยให้แผลหายเร็วขึ้น สารแซนโทน(Xanthon)ช่วยยับยั้งเชื้อราที่เป็นสาเหตุของโรคผิวหนังได้ และสารที่มีชื่อเรียกเฉพาะชื่อเดียวกับมังคุดว่า แมงโกสติน (Mangostin) มีฤทธืช่วยลดการอักเสบ และต้านแบคทีเรียที่ทำให้เกิดหนอง ผลวิจัยจะพบว่าเปลือกมังคุด เปลือกทับทิม มีสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระอยู่มาก มีคุณสมบัติการต้านอนุมูลอิสระที่เหมาะสมมากกว่าผลไม้ชนิดอื่นๆ

The mangosteen extract powder is obtained from the purple rind of the fruit (the pericarp), which holds the majority of the nutrients and the over-forty xanthones which can be found in themangosteen fruit and not from its white flesh. Initial studies on the fruit have demonstrated that the properties of xanthones being antioxidant and anti-inflammatory could aid in strengthening the immune system.
