Product Description
Rowing provides superb total-body cardiovascular conditioning in a smooth impact-free exercise. A great investment, the commercial-grade Concept2 Model E Indoor Rower is supported with free online motivational tools such as the Concept2 online logbook, rowing challenges and training forum. Manufactured by the company that set the standard in rowing, the Model E is Concept2’s latest and most advanced indoor rower. With rugged features such as a one-piece leg design, glossy finish top coat, nickel-plated chain and fully-enclosed chain housing, the Model E is recommended for high-use facilities, individuals looking for the latest and greatest, and those who prefer a higher seated position. With a 20” seat height, the Model E sits 6” higher than the Concept2 Model D Indoor Rower, making it easier to get on and off. The self-calibrating Performance Monitor (PM4) displays workout data in five display options, a LogCard to record results, games and more! The PM4 (included) also features built-in wireless heart rate monitoring (chest belt provided), machine-to-machine wireless racing, a rechargeable battery pack, and increased memory capacity. Every Concept2 Indoor Rower comes with a 30-day money back guarantee and limited 2-year 5-year warranty.
After spending the last six months or so using a Concept 2 at my local gym, I decided to buy a rower for my home. What stood out about the Concept 2 is the solid construction-- you never feel like you're going to break the thing, the windmill-- an under appreciated source of satisfying biofeedback on your performance, and the intangible qualities of the rowing action. The monitor too is quite versatile, and combined with the wireless heart rate strap, has more function than I could imagine using. Perhaps tying it to my iPhone via bluetooth with a cool app would be one way they could take it to the next level, but that's a lot to expect for a piece of exercise equipment. I sprung for the model E because I knew a year from now I'd miss the higher platform, better monitor, and included heart rate strap more than my extra $400. The nickel plated chain is nice too.

I had a good experience with the shipper CEVA. The item was delivered six days ahead of schedule (3 days!), in perfect condition, and the guy even helped me wheel it around to my walk out basement. Assembly was easy and takes about 20-30 minutes as others have said. Power tools help, but not every bolt path can be accessed easily with a bulky drill handle. I did not have any issues with bolt holes lining up properly.

I didn't do much comparison shopping because I was generally very happy with my C2 experience at the gym. I wanted to try the Water Rower, but the closest one was an hour away and it didn't seem likely enough that I would buy it to justify the drive. This is just speculation, but I'm not sure I would like pulling on a nylon belt (does it give off an annoying odor as it heats up?), and I'm not sure I want a quieter machine. I like that the C2 makes more noise the harder you push it. Gives me a sense of the power I'm generating. I have the unit in my basement game room, and the noise is not bad if you are used to the C2. I did try a magnetic resistance rower at another local gym and didn't like the absence of physical feedback.

Overall I'm very, very satisfied with my purchase and have been using the unit twice daily since I got it. My wife was skeptical at first, even annoyed that I bought it, but now she uses it every day too and loves the workout. It's so nice not having to drag myself to the gym for a good cardio workout, or commit to a run I may or may not feel up for after work.
It boils down to one thing when doing cardio workouts. H - E - A - R - T - R - A - T - E. That being stated I can assure you that the Concept 2 Model E rowing machine is by far the best piece of equipment that will challenge many muscle groups to get the overall task of draining one's energy to attain desired results. I know this because for once I can compare a piece of gym equipment that remotely gets close to a swim workout ... as swimming competitive type workouts has continued to be a mainstay of my exercise since competing and playing water polo as a youth.

This machine is seamless and smoothe. When you first get on it and get into a rythym, you might think to yourself, "where's the resistence?" Just settle into a 28 to 30 stroke per minute pace ... give it just three minutes ... and then challenge yourself to maintain the pace. Then keep it up for twenty minutes. Dare to go 30 maybe 40 minutes? Remember ... 28 to 30 strokes per minute. Oh one more thing ... level 10 ... no cheating. Good luck to you!

I've only owned this machine for a few weeks so I can't comment on the PM4 computer module. I still have yet to use the heartrate monitor as I've been too anxious just to row. I'm using another monitor I'm already accustomed to.
