Powerful 15 Amp Motor for Deep, Clean Cuts
Benchtop planers are a long-term investment that allow you to buy rough stock and dimension it yourself. They also make creating custom materials easier, which, makes getting great results easier.
This planer's powerful 15 amp motor handles a wide range of tough hardwoods, and its three-knife cutterhead spins at 10,000 RPM to provide 96 cuts per inch.
Reversible, Disposable Knives for Convenience
The DEWALT DW734 uses razor sharp knives that are reversible and disposable. These knives last 30 percent longer than traditional disposable knives, helping you avoid costly and time-consuming resharpening.
For fast, easy, one-tool knife changes, a set of pins machined on the cutter-head goes through holes machined on the knife. This helps you quickly locate the fresh knife and refasten the knife clamp. Effective Dust and Debris Management
The DW734 planer includes a dust hood that attaches to a shop vacuum or standing dust collector (sold separately) for efficient collection of chips and debris.
Large Capacity and Easy, Accurate Depth Adjustment
This planer's extra-long infeed and outfeed tables provide 33-1/2 inches of material support. A turret depth stop saves you time when setting the machine at commonly used depths.
In addition, the planer's material-removal gauge and extra-large thickness scale help ensure every pass is accurate. A four-column carriage lock drastically reduces the movement that causes material damage, or snipe, when planning near the end of a board.
This sturdy planer weighs 80 pounds. It offers a maximum cut depth of 1/8 inch, a depth capacity of 6 inches, and a width capacity of 12-1/2 inches.
This DW734 12-1/2-Inch Thickness Planer with Three Knife Cutterhead comes with a DEWALT warranty package that includes a three-year limited warranty, a one-year free service contract, and a 90-day money-back guarantee.

I have had one of these for a little over 4 years now. I have mine on the mobile base. Overall I find it is a nice easy to use planer. It gives good results, I usually get almost no perceptable snipe on the end of long boards, nice clean cuts. I like the depth gauge and turret stop. My only complaint about this planer is that even if you get the tables as level as possible (which is easy with the bolt adjustments), if you apply downward pressure to the corners, it's too easy to bend the tables. Mine bend more on one corner than the other, which suggests overall machining tolerances are not as high as they need to be for this kind of table support. It's like it wobbles where the hinges are.
In practice this minor wobble in the tables has not been big a problem. You normally use the center of the planer, so the tables won't bend as much. The rollers will bend the work piece flat to some extent so in most cases it doesn't matter if the tables aren't perfect. But if you are planing a really long board, it doesn't help with the snipe problem, especially if you cannot fully support the weight well enough. Again nothing that's an issue for most people, but I think I am about ready to upgrade to something a little sturdier. I have a feeling that with more solid tables, this planer could be taken to another level of quality.
After researching several planers, I felt that the DW734 was the right instrument for the right price. Placed my order and was quite excited when the unit arrived.
Packaging -- the unit was well packed and the parts easy to find. The instruction manual was right on top and easy to follow.
Assembly -- Very easy. The manual was straight-forward and the diagrams made assembly quite quick. I had built a cart for the unit, so the planer was ready to be used in about an hour. I took a look inside and was very surprised to see that the infeed roller and the cutting blade(s) were cover in wood chips. They cleaned up quite easily, but it was strange to see a "dirty" instrument right out of the box. I cleaned the infeed roller and the cutting heads and ran the unit dry until it no longer was leaking sawdust.

Use -- This is where the problems began. Setting the planer for depth was quick and easy. I planed several pieces of pine and all seemed fine. I then moved to my project (a cherry wood cabinet) and planed two 13" long 1" deep pieces. It quickly became apparent that the infeed and outfeed tables were not aligned with the bed of the planer. So as I fed in the cherry pieces, they were pulled up by the infeed roller. This caused snipe on all of the boards. For about the first 2 inches of planed wood, the cut was deeper than the rest of the board. As an aside the planing was smooth and quite good, but the infeed and outfeed tables would need to be aligned.
After the first cut and as I was understanding that I had a bad case of snipe, the boards were examined closely. They had become "blotched" due to a fluid coming from inside of the unit. I examined the unit and was unable to find the cause, but it was clear that a penetrating fluid had been deposited on the boards. I choose to plane the boards again to see what would happen. Some of the "blotches" disappeared and some new ones were found. At this point I decided to call DeWalt and Amazon.

Return -- I spoke with DeWalt Central Hotline and they were very nice. The confirmed that some wood shavings might be found in a new instrument, as the unit is tested in the factory before being packaged and shipped. They were surprised at the amount of "stuff" that was found in my unit. They confirmed that the infeed and outfeed tables should be almost parallel to the planer table. The unit I was using had between a 1/8" to 1/4" lip, based on where the measurement was taken. So not only was the table not aligned, it was angled. As to the "blotching" DeWalt had no clue and said no liquid should be found in the unit. DeWalt suggested speaking to the local DeWalt repair center for any other information and if not satisfied, return the unit. I did speak with the DeWalt repair center in Anaheim, California. They were also surprised and declined to even look at a repair. Their answer was to return the unit.
The Return was facilitated by Amazon and was quick and easy. 5 Stars for Amazon. The did all of the work. A new replacement unit was shipped out over night, and UPS was contacted to pick up the old unit. Great work Amazon.
NEW UNIT -- The New unit arrived and this time I knew what to look for. It was unpacked and put up on the home built cart and the checking got started. The infeed and outfeed tables were lined up perfectly. There was some wood shavings on the infeed roller, but very few and none on the blades. So far so good. But life is not fair. The cardboard box with the dust collection parts is shipped sitting in the unit directly below the cutter heads. Well the box to had two large (1 really large) splotches of what smells like an oil based product. The infeed table which is made of stainless steel looked like there was an amount of oil on it, and it had tried to be cleaned. It had the color of a rainbow when looked at. I checked inside the unit and the liquid was so thick that I could wipe it with a finger and then have it drip off. Needless to say, no planing with this unit. Both DeWalt Central and DeWalt Anaheim are closed on Saturday's, so will need to wait until they are around.

I will speak with DeWalt on Monday and see what I should do next. Just as added note, the unit comes with two tools: a DeWalt specific piece to help change the blades and a cresent wrench. In the New Unit, the cresent wrench is missing. Spoke with Amazon and they said to take one from the Old unit.
