Cookbox and Shroud

The cookbox houses the components of the cooking system: cooking grates, burner tubes, and the grease management system.

Made of cast aluminum, Weber's gas-grill cookboxes are durable, efficient, require minimal care and maintenance, and can withstand the heat needed to grill at any temperature. In addition, the shape of the cookbox, when combined with the shroud, allows for the proper circulation of heat around food for even cooking whether you're using direct or indirect heat.

Cooking Grates

Weber gas-grill cooking grates come in three exceptional materials: porcelain-enameled steel, stainless steel, and porcelain-enameled cast iron. Each type retains heat evenly and sears food beautifully. Porcelain-enameled steel cooking grates are durable and easy to clean. Stainless steel rod cooking grates make lovely sear marks, hold heat very well, and clean up with ease. Porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grates combine the ease of porcelain-enameled with the superior heat retention of cast-iron.

Burner Tubes

Weber's burners are made of high-grade stainless steel, which will stand up to the small amounts of water found in liquid propane and natural gas. The burner tubes are made of a singular piece of steel with no welds, making them stronger and more resistant to rust and burn-through. Weber gas-grill burner tubes can be cleaned easily by gently brushing with a Weber stainless-steel grill brush.

The burners are spaced to provide heat across the entire cooking grate. The burner valve has infinite control settings, so you can fine-tune the heat levels.

Grease Management

When juices drip off the meat, they funnel down into the grease management system. The grease management system consists of an angled grease tray and catch pan. The grease tray rests beneath the cookbox a safe distance from the burner tubes to prevent the grease from catching fire. Grease is channeled down the grease tray and into the catch pan. Both the grease tray and catch pan are easy to clean. The tray easily slides out of the cabinet for cleaning, and when the catch pan starts to fill, simply remove the disposable drip pan, toss it in the trash, and replace it with an empty pan.

The Q 300 Portable Gas Grill

As part of the Weber Q series, the Q 300 full-size portable gas grill provides a 393-square-inch cooking area, an impressive 21,700-BTU per-hour input, and two stainless-steel burners for fast heating, as well as push-button ignition and an adjustable burner valve for just the right amount of heat. The grill also comes with porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grates, a removable drip pan, a built-in lid thermometer, and two removable folding side work tables with tool hooks. The grill uses a 20-pound LP tank (sold separately). Made with a cast-aluminum lid and body with a glass-reinforced nylon frame and a titanium-color painted finish, the grill measures 30 inches long by 50-1/5 inches wide by 55-1/2 inches high and carries a five-year limited warranty.

I hate to deny this nice product a full five stars, because it is really a nice grill. The iron grills themselves inside this thing are extra-heavy and provide a level of even temperature control that those of us coming from $150 Home Depot grills can't even imagine, until experiencing a more upscale Weber. This is my first upscale grill, and let me tell you, it's a very different grilling and cooking experience. It's really a pleasure to cook on this grill; I'm probably grilling two or three times as often as previous summers, in part because I really like using it. It's not huge, but has ample space to cook for, probably, 3-4 people.

There are a couple of annoying things about it. The starter only worked the first 3-4 times I used it, and then, never again. Now I have to start it up with a grill lighter. I've since read other reviews and discovered that other people have had this problem. Seems like a pretty basic quality problem on a fairly expensive grill. The other flaw is more design-related. Tools hang off the sides, which fold down. But if you fold down a side, the tools go flying all over the ground. For those of us who prefer to keep the grill covered -- which requires putting the sides down -- this is kind of a hassle. Every time you want to put the grill cover on, you have to take off all the tools and put them someplace else.

Other than those two issues, this is a very nice product and one that I would buy again -- except that I won't have to, for a long, long time, because it looks to be extremely well made and durable.

When I moved into my house three years ago I had neighbors that rented. They moved out and left there Weber Q 300 grill behind. The owner of the house asked me if I wanted it. I said sure I do not have a grill I will take it. I took up grilling frequently and did not attribute any of the results to my grill. When I did something stupid and broke the bottom of my grill. I was bummed and given another free grill. This free grill was an eighty dollar Menards special and my cooking skills greatly decreased. I called Weber and asked for a part to fix it. I was on the phone for about 5 minutes when they had the part and i was ready to check out. I am waiting for the part now but Weber is an excellent company that makes a quality product. I was thinking there catchphrase should be something like everybody can cook better with a Weber.
