This transfer switch includes a L14-30 male power inlet and a dual watt meters to help you balance generator loads to prolong generator life. The kit comes with two 15 Amp 1-pole breakers, two 20 Amp 1-pole breakers, one 2-pole 20 Amp breaker, and one 2-pole 30 Amp breaker. Was JUST what I needed to connect a portable 5500W Generator to my house electrical panel (select circuits). Quick and easy for the electrician to connect (arrives prewired). Great product. Couldn't find any local electrical suppliers in the large metro area that actually stock this, so was very pleased able to get online. Delivery time was a bit longer than estimated, but very pleased with the product and performance.
This is a very good well designed transfer switch. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. No trouble with the switch or installation. All of the wires were sufficiently long enough to make it to the furthest away breaker in my box. Wires are clearly labeled to their corresponding breaker in the switch. I highly recommend this item.

The unit arrived in perfect condition. I opened it immediately and began the install. I chose a location next to my circuit panel, and ditched the cheesy looking corrugated PVC conduit in favor of proper 3/4 inch metal electrical conduit. Installation was a snap. It took about an hour to get the unit properly mounted to the wall and to get the conduit connected to the existing panel. It took another 20 minutes or so to connect the mains from the utility to the transfer switch. I then had the circuits I chose flipped onto the transfer switch in under an hour after I wired it to the mains panel. I have yet to run the outdoor hookup or even choose and purchase a generator, but if the feces hits the ventilator again any time soon (AKA another Irene...), a rental generator can plug right into my house. No more running extension cords throughout the place and dealing with appliances I can't use. Bring it on, I am READY! The only thing distracting from a perfect score is that the stamping of the knockouts wasn't complete in one place and I had to use my 7/8 spade bit to open up a blank to pass the wiring in on the top.
This is a Great product. I received the unit in excellent condition from Amazon. After reading the instructions ,I installed the switch in about 2 hours. If you need to change breakers you can buy them at any hardware store. I bought mine at Home Depot, didn't have any problems with interchangeability. This unit comes with a male plug (picture on web site is incorrect) see the 3028K which shows the male plug on the front panel. The 3028K is a kit with the 25 foot power cord and a power inlet box for through the wall connection. I plugged the 25 foot power cord into the front panel and had electricity immediately. We had been without electricity for several days and I was in a hurry to restore electricity. After the crisis was over I installed the power inlet box thru the wall. I did't have any problems whatsoever with this unit and I actually bought another unit for my son's house and installed it for him. We have used these transfer switches many times throughout the years and they have always worked without any problems. I definitely recommend the Gentran transfer switch to anyone that wants a backup system for times of power outages. I also recommend that you have a license electrician inspect any electrical work performed while installing these units.

The product, GenTran Model 3028, was received and inspected and found to be as advertised. Installation per instruction went well until it came to reassembly of the front panel onto the enclosure. As receive the steel front panel is secured to the enclosure with four 8-32 self tapping screws. The enclosure is made of aluminum. Upon attempting to install the front panel the self tapping screws removed more aluminum material resulting in stripping all the threads from the enclosure. I installed nut plates to restore the mechanical and electrical integrity of the enclosure.
This problem is not just a mechanical problem but more importantly an electrical safety issue. 1) I could not reassemble the product to protect people from live parts and 2) the front panel could no longer be properly bonded to the enclosure. I question whether this construction was approved by Underwriters Laboratory (UL). I did check and indeed UL has listed a GenTran Corp. Model 3028 as complying with the minimum requirements of their end product safety standard. I can imagine others having the same problem I encountered and in desperation installing the cover with sheet metal screws which is in violation of the National Electrical Code. Or even worse, relying on gravity and bubble gum to hold the screws in-place.
